Detection of gene rearrangements:
Gene
rearrangement test using the
5’/3’ ratioing
allows large scale screening of many leukemias and various types of
cancers in
which gene rearrangements due to chromosome translocations are the
causative
factors of the altered biological functions leading to cancerous
transformation. Gene rearrangements are silent using current chip
technology,
aside from indirect consequences manifested in gene expression levels.
The
developed SAT technology renders gene rearrangements detectible,
simultaneously
within many genes. This is a unique feature of this method, currently
no other
technology provides the same information. The empirical fingerprint
obtained
via advanced cluster analysis is made possible by the developed FCAP
Array
software. The technology promises new insights and provides effective
and
simple tools widely applicable in routine clinical diagnostic work.
The test has been elaborated for the MLL gene.
